Nail Tutorial / NOTD - Smokey Silver Foils

It's been a really long time since I had the chance to film nail tutorials.  If you have been following my blog for a while as well as my YouTube channel since I started doing videos - you will know that I actually used to do nail tutorials all the time... but since the twins were born, things have been a little more difficult to do.

I figured I would start off with a really easy tutorial - just a foiling application.  I love doing foils because it allows me to have a full set of awesome nails (whether shiny, metallic or just awesome) without having to wait for such a long time for it to dry.  I love to use the metallic foils because they really replicate Minx nails - which is a popular but very expensive nail trend.

As I mention in the video - foiling your nails can be tidious and at times it does not last long.  As you can see in the photos...there are some areas on the nails that need to have adhesive applied again and then refoiled - let's face it, it happens.

If you want to see how I do it - then please do watch the tutorial below ;)

Sally Hansen Salon Effects - Real Nail Polish Strips...

So - this was my first time purchasing these strips and using them.  I have to say that I really do like them, they are easy to use... and so far they are quite durable and lasting through my normal day duties... including washing dishes several times a day.   Though they were sold out at my local Walgreens in all the cool colors and designs... I was able to get a few awesome ones.

The box claims that they will last up to 10 days, No Dry Time and you just need to Peel & Apply.  They fit all Nails and come with 16 Nail Polish Strips, a Cuticle Stick and Mini Nail File.

Day 1 (pictured below)- You can see the little mistakes I did on my middle finger from over filing... but for the most part - they look really nice. :)

When you first open the box... the smell is quite strong in my opinion... like Gorilla Glue or some kind of really strong adhesive.  At first glance, they look really weird and you have to really work with it to get the sizes just right... but they are fairly simple to apply to your nails.  I was able to place them and take it off... if I placed it in the wrong area... so that definitely was a plus. It seems to set fairly quickly and I was able to remove the excess without difficulty... utilizing the mini nail file they include.

I do have a few cons on this item however... as I cannot believe that it costs $9.99 plus tax.  This isn't that bad... considering you pay a lot more for a professional manicure in a salon or even for a high quality nail polish for that matter... but you really only get 1 application with this product.  It comes with 16 nail strips (instead of 20) so you can really do another full set with the extras you have left over.  I think I will use them to do tips instead... because I can cut them down to shape... maybe.

I am on day 3 of this nail polish strips... and so far - they have really held up.  Besides the normal wear and tear any nail polish will have and normal nail growth... they still look really nice.  The color has faded some bit, but that is normal with any nail polish you use... and considering I didn't use a top coat - it looks pretty darn good.

Day 3 (pictured below) - normal nail growth and a little bit of fading... as well as some removal of the paint from my nail edges have come off - but for the most part, they still look good.

All in all, I think it is a pretty good product.  It saved me a lot of time, which is awesome considering I never have any time to begin with. :)

The products discussed and photographed were purchased by me with my own money.  I was not paid or compensated in any way by the companies or others to do this video or blog post.

NOTW (Nails of the Week): Sporting OPI's Sahara Sapphire

I had a few minutes of down time today so I was able to polish my nails.  I wanted a purple look today... but wasn't feeling a bright purple this time... so I decided I would paint them a kind of metallic purple.  OPI's Sahara Sapphire is one of my favorite colors... though I usually use it on my toes - I decided I would switch things up a bit and paint my finger nails with it.

Pictured above is my nails with OPI's Sahara Sapphire on my finger nails
with one coat of polish and no base coat.

Pictured above is the polish with 2 coats.

The final look:  OPI's Sahara Sapphire with 2 coats of polish and Nubar's Diamont Seal & Shine Top Coat.

Looking to add a little crackle to my life... China Glaze Crackle Glaze Polishes

I havent' had the chance to get my hands on any of these yet... but let me tell ya, I am ecstatic and absolutely cannot wait to get them.

This line from China Glaze was release in the early days of February (2011) and the hype has been going on for a few months now after China Glaze rolled it out on their blog.  Check your local beauty supply store for these colors.  The prices will range but I think they are definitely worth it and I hope to rush down to my nearest store and pick me up a full set. :)

Trying to be a trendsetter with my Dark Purple Nails. ;)

So - you have read my blog post and saw the videos... but I wanted to share a few photos of my nails so you could see the actual colors... I didn't use my professional cameras to take these... so I hope the quality is ok. ;)

*Please pardon the messiness of the polish - I took the photos before I cleaned up the edges of my nails. ;)

Holiday Nails - Trendy Colors for this Winter Holiday Season

Painting your nails happens to be one of the biggest accessories a gal could ever do to spice up her look.  With colors straight off the runway to nude colors that are simple and wearable every day - this is a must have to bump up your style and sport a nice clean & funky look.

This Holiday Season - the trendy colors for nail polish are not the same old reds, golds & greens that you are used to seeing...  Magazines and runway models are sporting beautiful, deep & dark purples, plums and burgundy polishes & lacquer.  Add some extra bling by attaching some jewels or a top coat of your favorite glitters.

Here are some photos of my favorite colors.  You can find these at your local beauty supply stores or salons... and some of them you can find at your local drugstore or Avon.com
