Julep Maven - a monthly subscription worth every penny!

If you have been following me for a while, you know that I absolutely love my nail polishes and all things nail related.  I think that decorating your nails is a form of expression, fashion and of course... just a cute way to show off your girlie girl side.  I have been watching Julep and the colors that they have been coming out with for a little while now.  I hadn't purchased anything from them because each time I looked at what they had to offer, it just did not seem affordable to me and I couldn't pull myself to buy anything.

I stumbled upon an ad while watching a video of one of my favorite YouTube Gurus -  SoniaCastaneda.  I love her videos and in this specific one - she was doing a Hello Kitty bow on the nails... hello, talk about Love!  I clicked on the link and found myself signing up for yet another monthly subscription.  Though - I was a little apprehensive at first... I was so excited, because I had a special code which allowed me to get my first month of Julep Maven for just $5.00.  That is a saving of over 80% and certainly worth every single penny.

Each Julep Maven box is just $19.99.  The cool thing is that you get over $40 worth of products each month.  And - with a special code, you can get your Maven box for 50% off or in some cases, a lot cheaper.  I was so amazed when I received my beautiful black box.  I opened it up and inside was a gorgeous Julep Maven black bag with white handles and tied with a bright hot pink ribbon.  Gorgeous!  I love monthly subscriptions because it seems like Christmas each and every day. :)  When I opened my package, inside I had 2 of the most beautiful colors... Emilie a gorgeous, an opaque dark forest green color and Sienna, a beautiful gold polish - I can't even explain how beautiful this color is. ;)

My Julep Maven membership was purchased by me with my own money.  To sign up for Julep Maven - visit:  http://www.julep.com/AP.aspx?ID=520&EID=14740439

I love all things glitter and purple... and I though this would be a really quick and easy nail tutorial for a beginner.  You don't really need any special tools and you can change the color for one that fits your mood. ;)  I hope you enjoy this tutorial as much as I did making it.

Sally Hansen's Crackle overcoat

I must say that I am very much pleased with this product and at half the price of the ones from China Glaze and OPI, I am in love. I will do a formal review on this as soon as I get a chance. Way to go Sally.

NOTD - Easter Egg Nails

Funky and Fun and perfect for Easter.  I rushed through these just to show you a cute way to do an Easter Egg on your nails.  Of course... you can take your time and make them look really pretty.

Products used:  I used 5 different bright Easter/Spring nail polish colors as my base.  They can vary in textures, I chose a few matte ones and some with glitters and metallics.  To create the designs... I used the "striping nail polishes" that you can get from pretty much any drug store.  This brand happens to be Sally Hansen.  I simply painted them on in different directions and designs and added some glitter.

I literally did this look in about 15 mins... so if you took your time a little - I just know that it would be absolutely awesome. :)  If you decide to try it out - please send me an email with the photo or post it on my facebook page.  :) Happy painting.

NOTW (Nails of the Week): Sporting OPI's Sahara Sapphire

I had a few minutes of down time today so I was able to polish my nails.  I wanted a purple look today... but wasn't feeling a bright purple this time... so I decided I would paint them a kind of metallic purple.  OPI's Sahara Sapphire is one of my favorite colors... though I usually use it on my toes - I decided I would switch things up a bit and paint my finger nails with it.

Pictured above is my nails with OPI's Sahara Sapphire on my finger nails
with one coat of polish and no base coat.

Pictured above is the polish with 2 coats.

The final look:  OPI's Sahara Sapphire with 2 coats of polish and Nubar's Diamont Seal & Shine Top Coat.

Gold, Purple & Sparkles... Playing with my Nail Polishes!

Hi Dolls...

I was really lucky to have a few moments to myself the other evening... thanks to my hubby watching the kiddos.   It has been quite some time since I have painted my finger nails... I have been taking the easy way out and foiling them instead - because the drying time is faster and easier on my schedule.  But, I figure I would take out the polish and play. :)

Here are a few looks that I tried out.  I ended up with the last polish coating (pictured at the bottom) because it just matched my skin tone a little better overall.   Please excuse the glare in the photographs... I was rushing and forgot about the flash... :)

Pictured above is China Glaze's Passion
The application was done without a base coat and top coat.
I used 2 coats to get this color payoff.

Pictured above is China Glaze's Passion (Gold) with Nubar's Purple Glitter on top.
Again - no base coat or top coat.  The Purple Glitter was applied in one coat.

I especially love Purple & Gold together... it has always been one of my favorite nail polish combinations.  Nubar's Purple Glitter is so awesome because the glitter transfers to the nail in one sweep easily.

Pictured above is Nubar's Paradise.
This was applied on a clean nail without Base Coat or Top Coat.

I would suggest that you use at least 2 coats because this color can appear very sheer with one coat -
but it is also a great color to apply over another color... i.e. over Gold or Purple polish.
I have even applied this polish over a Green polish and it came out really cool.
I applied 2 coats of this polish to my nails.

This was my final look.  It is very wearable with pretty much any outfit and appears almost nude in color because of the gold tones...  but it has an almost chameleon type base...
so it can change colors to a lavender hue.  It is absolutely gorgeous!

All Products pictured/mentioned above were purchased by me.
I have not been paid or I am not an affiliate with any of the brands mentioned above.

Looking to add a little crackle to my life... China Glaze Crackle Glaze Polishes

I havent' had the chance to get my hands on any of these yet... but let me tell ya, I am ecstatic and absolutely cannot wait to get them.

This line from China Glaze was release in the early days of February (2011) and the hype has been going on for a few months now after China Glaze rolled it out on their blog.  Check your local beauty supply store for these colors.  The prices will range but I think they are definitely worth it and I hope to rush down to my nearest store and pick me up a full set. :)

Trying to be a trendsetter with my Dark Purple Nails. ;)

So - you have read my blog post and saw the videos... but I wanted to share a few photos of my nails so you could see the actual colors... I didn't use my professional cameras to take these... so I hope the quality is ok. ;)

On my nails I have Nubar's Base coat, China Glaze's Side Saddle, Nubar's Purple Glitter & Nubar's Shine & Sparkle Top Coat.

*Please pardon the messiness of the polish - I took the photos before I cleaned up the edges of my nails. ;)

Holiday Nails - Trendy Colors for this Winter Holiday Season

Painting your nails happens to be one of the biggest accessories a gal could ever do to spice up her look.  With colors straight off the runway to nude colors that are simple and wearable every day - this is a must have to bump up your style and sport a nice clean & funky look.

This Holiday Season - the trendy colors for nail polish are not the same old reds, golds & greens that you are used to seeing...  Magazines and runway models are sporting beautiful, deep & dark purples, plums and burgundy polishes & lacquer.  Add some extra bling by attaching some jewels or a top coat of your favorite glitters.

Here are some photos of my favorite colors.  You can find these at your local beauty supply stores or salons... and some of them you can find at your local drugstore or Avon.com
