Flatironexperts.com and the KQC X Heat Ceramic Styling Flat Iron

First of all, let me just start off by saying... my crazy hair loves this flat iron.  I was pretty leery about what I would be receiving - the company didn't give me much information about the product, only that they were sending me something that would help to tame my crazy locks.  I was doubtful, because having used many products - though there are many that made my FAV's list - I haven't really been using hot tools on my hair for almost a year and I have consistently bleached & dyed my hair over the last 5 months.

Flatironexperts.com sent me the KQC X Heat Ceramic Styling Flat Iron via Fed Ex.  It arrived from Canada in a matter of about 3 days.  Shipping was definitely quick, which is a big deal for me.  When I opened the box the day it arrived, again - still not that excited... in my mind I thought to myself... "How is this supposed to be great for my hair?  It seems like any other flat iron on the market!"

Well, slap me silly and call me dead wrong. I plugged in my new flat iron and within 2-3 seconds, it was completely warmed up and ready to go.  I was still reading the packaging and the KQC Shine Spray that came with it and before I knew it - I could use this awesome tool.

Before Flat ironing my hair - very curly.

It glided through my hair effortlessly.  Let me just explain - that I did not previously detangle my hair...  my hair was washed the evening before and very very curly... so I should have ran a comb through it.  I was just too excited, that I decided not to.  I parted my hair like I normally do when flat ironing... starting from the bottom portions of my hair and working my way up to the top of my head.  It took me about 26 minutes to get through my entire head and to get it completely straight.

After flat ironing my hair - very straight.
When ordering from flatironexperts.com - you will see that their site offers you different types of flat irons and hair styling tools.  They also classify them by their "Top" tools that they sell and refer to.  They also have reviews on their products - which is very helpful when ever you are ordering online.  I especially love that their site is so easy to maneuver.  Customer service is quick, friendly and shipping - as I mentioned before, is very fast.

The KQC X Heat Tourmaline Ceramic 1" flat iron that I received is retailed for about $250.00 and is on sale on flatironexperts.com for about $160.00.  Plus - if you order a KQC flat iron - you will get a free KQC shine spray.

Flat ironing and straightening your hair not for you... you love curls?  Well, I tested this awesome item out on my ends of my hair to see if it would curl and it did awesomely.  The iron gets hot enough to add curls to your hair, but not as hot as many of the other irons get that it will burn your hands.  The tool heats up to 410 Degrees in a very short time so you can get styling quickly and effortlessly.  It comes with a swivel chord - which is perfect for styling your hair in any situation... there's not tangling your body in your chord while you are working with your hair.  The 1" flat iron is the perfect width to get the right amount of hair and work your way through the process without having to take too little amounts at a time.

My favorite part about this awesome product is that it is not as thick as my other flat irons... and since I have Carpal Tunnel syndrome, this is great for my wrists and forearms.  I can glide it easily through my hair without pain in my wrists and it is just about 1 lb heavy - so your arms will not get easily exhausted while working with your hair.

My hair is so soft so awesome and it lasts without problems till my next wash.  I love it.

My rating on this flat iron - 5 STARS.  My rating on the company - 5 STARS.

Please watch my video review below for more details on what I think about this flat iron and the company.  Thank you so much to flatironexperts.com for sending me this awesome product.  Go get yours today ;)

xoxo
Honey

D.I.Y. Tip of the Week - Protein Mask for your Hair

I love to repost fun things that I read about online... and I thought this was a great tip to share with all of you.  Use this recipe to battle those bad hair days... with ingredients you can find in your kitchen.

Hair is made up of proteins, which can break up from exposure to the sun, harsh chemicals and crazy conditions... so what better way to strengthen your strands than to put some of that protein back in to it.

What you'll need:
2 eggs
1/2 cup yogurt
1/2 cup honey
1/2 cup olive oil

What you need to do:
1.  Beat the egss until they become frothy and add in the olive oil.
2.  Whisk until it's fully blended together and add in the yogurt, mixing until it's a creamy consistency.  Then add the honey.
3.  Comb out any knots and tangles in your hair, and spread the mixture from your roots to your ends, combing it through.
4.  Wrap your hair in a warm towel and leave for twenty to thirty minutes before you rinse it out and shampoo.

In my opinion - this beats using Mayonaise and having the smell linger in your hair.  :)

Valentine's Day Hairstyles - Quick & Glamorous Hairstyles for your Date Night and No Hot Tools Needed!

Are you a busy mommy or a hard working doll with no time to style your hair for your Date Night with your love on Valentine's Day?  If so - I think you will definitely find this blog post useful. :)

I LOVE Valentine's Day.  I absolutely cannot stress this enough.  And, when I get the opportunity to dress up and look fabulous for a night out on the town with my hunny - know that I am going to definitely take advantage of it.  When I was working full time at my corporate job - there was no time for prettying up for a night out with my boo.  If Valentine's Day was on a weekday - I would be rushing from the office to the restaurant to make our reservations and I had no choice to use the same ol' hairstyle I wore all day.  Thinking back on all of that... I was inspired to help all of you lovely dolls get gorgeous with a little bit of glam for the special evening with your loves.  Instead of spending all that time getting dolled up and doing your hair, use that time to cuddle up with your boo!

The hairstyles pictured below are easy and simple and can be done in a minute.
There is no need to use any hot tools.  My hair is naturally very curly (like pictured) so I simply styled it right out of the shower when my hair was a little damp.  The only hair products I have in my hair is John Freida Leave-In conditioner & Catwalk Curls Rock Amplifier.  The products I used are listed below and you can also watch the video tutorial for step by step instructions on how to achieve the looks pictured below.

Clip in Flower pin or Flower on a hair tie
bobby pins
twisty pins (not sure of the exact name)
tiny plastic claw clips
hair tie (rubberband)
and maybe a comb if you need it.

~ optional items for the style ~
leave-in conditioner
Catwalk Curl's Rock Amplifier
Hairspray, Mousse or Gel

Messy Bun Hairstyle

Side Ponytail Hairstyle

Hair completely down & curly... no formal styling done.
Just added leave-in conditioner & Catwalk Curls Rock Amplifier.

xoxo ~

Add some Bling to your hair - My review on Bling Strands

Spice up your daily wardrobe with a very simple and high fashion accessory...  Bling Strands.  I had the opportunity to try Bling Strands for the first time this January.  I have tried quite a few other products where others have applied them in my hair... but this product is definitely the best.  Other products I used were very heavy or thick... and once tied in - they would fall out or pull out after just a few days or my first shampoo (washing my hair).  Bling strands however has withstood tremendously.  I tied in (or shall I say I had some help tying in) the Bling Strands on New Years Eve 2010.  I tried to do it on my own... but it was quite difficult for me to do - though I blame it on my short arms... :)  Once I got help - the process of putting them in is really simple.  You will use the bling strand to tie a slip not around your natural hair... and then tie the hair & bling strand together.  Once that is done, you will drop your natural hair and pick up both ends of the bling strand and pull them slowly and softly till you feel a pop and the bling strand is secure.  I just removed all of my bling strands yesterday (February 10th) and they lasted over a month.  I did lose about 4 over the month... but I had over 15 in my hair... so it really didn't take away from the overall look I was trying to achieve.

In the above photo... I have my hair flat ironed straight...
the bling strands can withstand up to 400 degrees.  They did not burn or budge.

In the photo above... my hair is wet and straight out of the shower... they are still shiny and perfect.

I was able to shower, shampoo & condition my hair.  Spray and condition with leave in treatment, flat iron, curl with a curling iron and nothing affected the bling strands at all.  Brushes and combing my hair was a easy... there was no tugging, pulling or yanking of my normal hair and they lasted until I lost a hair of my own. It was a perfect compliment to all of my outfits and I definitely turned heads when I was out in public.  I absolutely love this product and would continue to by it time and time again.

The above photo was taken from Blingstrands.com
I wish we had this product 13 years ago when I was going to prom.
I would have had an awesome hairstyle.  Perfect for Weddings, Proms & a night out on the town.  I used bling strands everyday and loved it.

COSTS:

Individual colors = $10.00 each (25 strands, 18 inches long)
Kits

  • Precious Metal & Natural Kits = $38.00 (a $42.00 savings) (8 colors, 25 strands each color, 18 inches long each strand)
  • Brights & Pastels Kits = $38.00 (a $42.00 savings) (8 colors, 25 strands each color, 18 inches long each strand)

Bling strands has partnered with a textile fiber manufacturer in the US that manufacturers all of the fibers only for Bling Strands.  The strands are guaranteed to be Lead free, non-toxic and non-flammable.  They are made from clothing grade synthetic fibers and the manufacturer is the same one that supplies fabrics to Calvin Klein, Hugo Boss and Vera Wang...  just to name a few.  They are the finest, most thinly cut strands on the market and made to withstand heat up to 400 degrees.

Below is the instructional video that the team at blingstrands.com put together on how to tie bling strands into your hair.  I did have difficulty putting them in - but it is usually difficult to see the top of your head.  I would suggest that you get someone to help you.  I have no trouble putting them in for anyone else however... and it is such a fun thing to do on a "Girl's day out".

There are so many people with their own opinions... I have come across blogs that have positive and negative things to say about this product.  In my opinion - I absolutely love it.  Being a stay at home mom, I really don't have the opportunity to dress up on a daily basis like I used to when I worked at a corporate office.  Bling strands allowed me to dress up my hair subtly without causing too much attention - but at the same time, giving my every day look an extra flair.  I definitely suggest that every woman have a complimenting color as a part of their arsenal of hair products.  Now that my hair is no longer red, the silver will probably not mesh with my brownish blond hair... so I am going to be ordering the champagne ones to rock out my new look. :)

Creative Professional Handmade Tortoise Comb - Product Review

I had the privilege to receive a Handmade Tortoise wide tooth comb (#C5W) from It’s a Glam Thing – on behalf of Creative Professional Hair Tools (http://www.creativehairtools.com

Per the Creative Hair Tools website, each of their handmade combs are sawed from a single sheet of high quality Italian produced cellulos (cotton) acetate, with its teeth gently rounded. There are no burrs that can snag and break hair, causing split ends. Ordinary combs are molded from inferior plastic and have burrs and jagged seams between the teeth that break and damage hair, making it dull and lifeless.  The websites claim nails it right on the money… for I have been using this specific comb for about a month now and it is my number one choice of combs to use on my hair.

Those of you that have been following me on youtube or twitter – know that I have chosen to start using my hair in its natural form – wearing it down and curly without continuously flat ironing/straightening it.  This comb has been essential in my new hair style… allowing me to use my hair curly without worrying too much that my hair will frizz just from combing my hair.  The comb fits perfectly in my hand… without causing added pressure and added strain on my wrist while combing through my hair.  This is very important to me… because of my carpal tunnel, many brushes and heavier combs add discomfort to my wrists while combing my long hair.  I have been able to comb through my very kinky curly hair without difficulty or pulling.  You can purchase these combs as well as view & purchase a selection of many others by visiting http://www.creativehairtools.com  This Handmade Tortoise Comb retails on their site for $11.10 which is a reasonable price tag for such an awesome product.  I honestly think that in order to achieve awesome results – you need to have the right tools… and this definitely should be a part of your hair tool collection.
If you have curly hair like me, you will surely find it useful. Smile

Raspberry Red Hair...

So - I posted on Tumblr.com a few days ago that I was coloring my hair to a bright red color.  I contemplated going really bright like Rihanna is currently sporting right now - but decided to tone it down a bit because I still have a bunch of photoshoots to do before the end of the year and didn't want to freak out my clients. :)  I settled on the color Luscious Raspberries by Splat.  I have never used Splat haircolor before, but let me tell you... I LOVE IT.  I picked up this box of hair color from Walgreens (I think I said CVS in my tumblr post - if so, sorry - I totally made a mistake)  It cost just over $10 and in my opinion it was a great deal.  The contents of the box includes everything you need for that all over, drastic color - including bleach to get that pale yellow color that will absorb all of the pink to have a very bright and vibrant look.  The color does stain more than any other color I have used before.  I got a slashed mark on my right forearm and have been scrubbing since and it is still there - so you must be very careful when using this product... vaseline is a must around the hairline, ears, etc.  I didn't use any and luckily I was able to remove the color before it stained. :) yikes.

So here is a picture of my final hair color.  I LOVE IT and will recommend this color to anyone.  I have been a big fan of RAW color that you can find at any Hot Topic Store, but you have to buy the bleach separately and it cost more for just the RAW color then the Splat color with bleach.  I didn't use the bleach on my hair this time because I still had highlights in my hair from my last salon trip.

So - what do you think?

Review - Turbie Twist Hair Towel

I am lucky to have tried many fun and exciting items in my lifetime.  I had been wanting to try out a Turbie Twist for a few years now - but just couldn't bring myself to buy one in fear that I would not like it.  Then, I was contacted by a representative at Turbie Twist asking if I could try out and review the product.  I said okay and waiting for it to arrive.  I am glad that I accepted to review & try out this product because I absolutely love it.

Now - we all know that I am very honest and true when it comes to reviewing product.  So - here is my unbiased product review.

First of all, I LOVE THIS THING.  It is very easy to use and VERY soft, even after I washed & dried it in the machine.  When you receive your Turbie Twist - you have a choice between the single (1) pack & double (2) pack.  If you see the 2 pack at a good deal - I would definitely buy it because you can rotate between the 2 or give one away as a gift.  I promise that your girlfriends, sisters or moms will love it too.  This package retails for approx $5.00 depending on the State & Store you are purchasing it from.  It has been featured on QVC and you can find it at many places like CVS, Ross & Sally Beauty Supply.  It's unique tapered design allows for use on all head sizes and unlike using a heavy towel on your head, Turbie Twist is light weight and very easy to use.

Here is what it looks like in the packaging:

Now - as you can see from the towels in the pictures above, the turbie twist comes in an array of colors as well as prints.  I received a turquoise colored one.  I love that it is such a brightly colored hair towel because it hasn't gotten lost in my towel laundry yet. ;-)

The directions for it's use is simple (even for long hair)...

1.) simply place the larger section over the back of your head with the elastic loop close to your neck.

2.) Twist your hair securely as you would normally do with a regular bath towel.

3.)  Loop the twist or pull it through the elastic band.

Done!

When testing the product - the hair towel stayed in place for over an hour while I did all of my usual bedtime routines.  My hands were free to move about without having to constantly keep twisting my towel back up again, as I normally would do if I was just using a towel.  And, when I removed the towel, my hair was not dripping wet, but still wet enough to work it into a nice hairstyle. Oh - did I mention that I also tested it a few times by putting my hair in it while my hair was soaking wet and I had no problem with it.  There was no water running down my face - the turbie twist soaked it up pretty well.

Here is my quick video on the product and how I received it, what it looks like out of the box, etc.  I hope you enjoyed this review and hope that you will think about purchasing this product - I really liked it.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3L7fHAfIaNA

A little about Turbie Twist:  This awesome product was co-founded in 2006 by two sisters who took control of Turbie Twist straight out of college.  Angela & Christina's creativity & hard work paid off as the two female entrepreneurs took Turbie Twist to this years Inc. 500/5000 list of the fastest growing companies in America at #789.

Again - this is my unbiased review on a product that I have tried and tested.  Yes, I have been provided with the product by a representative of Turbie Twist - however, I will not be held responsible for any problems you may have with the product.  I am simply providing you with information on my product use.  All images are provided to me via Turbie Twist.  Please visit turbietwist.com for further information.
